Victorian Diptych

(Click on title to view painting via the blog page)

I just completed a 24x30 inch commission of the Albert Brown house, shown below. It was an historical painting, showing my client's grandmother on her horse in front of the house. I love our stately and grand 'ladies' that line Little Lake Street in quaint Mendocino and often paint them from many different angles. I spotted two tiny panels on my shelf today and decided to paint the house again, along with the Blair House (made famous by the TV show Murder She Wrote) in miniature this time. Hope you like the small and the big of it.

Wild Watercolor

Yesterday at Pacific Star Winery north of Fort Bragg was, yet again, an other-worldly experience. The breezes were lovely, the sunshine just right, the company of friends superb and the wee glass of their orange muscat perfect for our picnic. Painting was an after thought, but so glad that my friends indulged me while they gawked and gazed. Glad I carry an emergency watercolor bag in my car at all times!

Southbound

Driving south toward Elk, one can be enthralled by one majestic vista after another. Such was the case yesterday when I went to visit an elderly friend and afterwards decided to continue south til I could find a pull-out in which to park and paint. The winds have been howling lately, but doing small paintings from the comfort of the front seat of my car is completely doable!
You haven't heard from me in quite some time for about 100 reasons. Most recently, we took a trip to Los Angeles to see our boys and that was action packed with no time to paint. Otherwise, we're still recovering from a flood that took place in our frame shop at the end of December. Believe it or not, it has taken that long to empty the space, rip out the sheetrock walls and ceilings, repair all upstairs flooring and all downstairs ceilings and walls, replace the contents and finally, to organize the contents. Horrific job, but it's finally looking rather spiffy!
