I'd been indoors for hours and couldn't stand the fact that a gloriously sunny day was being wasted at the computer and doing paperwork. I called a friend at that last minute to see if she might be up for a jaunt to Pacific Star to take in the last bit of the day and she said, "YES". Thank you Georgia for changing your plans, zipping over to my studio, packing me and my art supplies into your car and heading north. I can't get enough of this spot, and darling Sally who is pictured below is always smiling when I show up. We finally got a photo of the two of us together, and even though one side of my glasses is dark and I look like a pirate (!), here we are soaking up the beauty of this place yet again. Yep, those are cows out there on the bluffs.

Peaceful and Content
At home and sick today, but feeling peaceful myself if not actually content. However, these sunlit cows are certainly happy in the receding light of a long summer day. Painting a bit of history here as the cows and 'their' tree are no longer in this Caspar field and the Community Center has been remodeled, but thankfully it's still pastoral and a delight to drive by each day on my way home from the studio.

Til the Cows Come Home
I simply had the hankering to do something out of the ordinary, that is for me. Cows are ordinary I suppose, but I don't necessarily tune in to them. My husband gravitate towards animals of all types and was the one that discovered this group of cows all clumped together. I have to say that I adore the red one peeking out from behind the other large black one's behind and that is what pulled my trigger. Hope it makes you smile.

Coastal Ranch revisited
I posted this painting in another version a while back, when I was just emerging from the sickest segment of my sickness. Originally, the foreground was bleached out and you wondered how on earth those cows could care less about those dried up grasses. Now that I've lived with it in my studio, I realized that it needed grounding because that light color also gave it an illusion of floating. Not so good. I like the addition of green grasses with deeper values and hope that you and the cows connect better with it too.

Coastal Ranch
I have been out of commission for a little over two weeks now due to a nasty virus and believe me, it's been pity party central around my house. Besides this, there has been a death in our family and two hospitalizations, so it hasn't been exactly smooth sailing. I'd like to say that I've utilized the time well and have learned all sorts of good stuff, but that wouldn't be true. I am hoping that in retrospect, some valuable things begin to appear very soon and that someone shows up to give me some smiling lessons. In the meantime, here is a cheerful scene from a wonderful spot in between Petaluma and the coast and may it serve to lift all our spirits. Thanks for hanging in there with me and let's hope I bounce back with lots of great new work and inspirational stuff to say about it!
