My Corner of the Coast

These are the gorgeous long shadows that appear at the end of a summer day, and right in my neck of the woods. It takes me about 30 steps to get to this vantage point and I love it at all times of the day, during all times of the year. Years and years ago I did a watercolor of this scene from a photo I'd taken and surprisingly there are power poles and lines in that painting. I've been coming to Mendocino long enough to have seen it turn into an official historic district and watched all the lines go underground. It's amazing what a simple thing like that does to a landscape as now you can't tell if it's 1892 or 2012....................
