Wine and Roses

One of the true glories of summer is roses with a capital 'R'. All the colors, all the types and all the fragrances just send you into orbit. Maybe there's a reason that roses are planted near vineyards (they are susceptible to the same diseases and act as guinea pigs), but I am most transfixed by the aesthetics. This is the V. Sattui Winery in St. Helena, and I love it because it's like going to Italy without hopping a plane. Just look at that rustic, old style building, and the inside is just as grand. I've painted it many times, but this is the first time to include the luscious blossoms. Enjoy.
